(From Saturday's programme)
So we start a new season full of expectation but with a little caution after the last two campaigns. The virus has not gone away and we must be aware that we go into the unknown, even the FA have contingency plans in place in case things take a turn for the worst again. We can only live in hope that the scientists can help us overcome what has been unprecedented times. I would like you all to spare a moment to remember those who haven’t been as lucky to survive the virus this far. I’m sure you have all been affected by losing friends and loved ones and there will be a few empty seats and gaps on the terraces where football fans used to be. Life goes on so to speak, but we must thank everybody who has contributed to help mankind through a very difficult period.
As we try to regain some normality our pre-season has seen a few new faces join the Garforth family. A warm welcome to these guys and a welcome back to most of our squad. Only a few players have departed so we wish them well in their future roles. We have competed well against some strong opposition with the only down side of us fading towards the end of games. This was mainly due to a limited number of players available on the day and with the heat it was only to be expected that we tired. However our last game against Yorkshire Amateur which was played at a more normal temperature and which we had almost a full compliment of players was an exciting affair. Against a very strong team we were by far the better side and were worthy winners. We hope that we can take this momentum into the new season.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask all of our supporters to now help the club moving forward. Craig and I have managed to keep Garforth Town’s heads above the water through challenging times. The decisions we have had to make have been difficult but we are now opening up and the costs begin to rise again. Bannister Prentice Accountants have continued as the main sponsor throughout this and without them the club wouldn’t be in the position that we are today. Some of us didn’t stop working behind the scenes to try and come out of the other side stronger. So if you could help by spending from as little as £10 to sponsor a square on the pitch, to sponsoring your favourite player or any other sponsorship packages that are available, we would be grateful. If you can’t manage to help financially maybe you can give us some of your time as we are always looking for volunteers, particularly on match days. Together we will be stronger and it seems like a good time to have a fresh start. If you can help please speak to myself or Craig at a match or email us at secretary@garforthtown.net.
We win together and we lose together.
