Garforth Town AFC can confirm that club captain Dan Coupland has left the club to take a break from playing after 262 appearances for the Miners.

Dan first pulled on a Garforth shirt in the 2017/18 season and has captained the side for more than five years. In that time he led the club through some of the biggest moments in its recent history, including promotion to the Northern Premier League in 2024.

At home in midfield or at centre-back, "Coops" was the calm head in the side, reliable from the penalty spot, with a habit of scoring when we needed it most.

Manager Paul Marshall said: "Coops has been my captain for almost my entire time at this club, and I couldn't have asked for a better one. He's the first name you want on the team sheet, not just for what he does with the ball but for what he demands from everyone around him. He's played hurt, played out of position and never once complained. Lads like that make a manager's job easy. The dressing room will miss him, and so will I."

Chairman Andy Hey said: "Dan has been everything you want in a captain. He set the standard in the dressing room, looked after the younger lads and never gave less than everything in a Garforth shirt. 262 games tells you all you need to know about his commitment. He leaves with our thanks and will always be welcome here."

Everyone at the club thanks Dan for his service and wishes him and his family all the best.
