Dan Coupland returned to the first eleven after holidays, as did Luke Aldrich who missed Saturday's Trophy win over Ashington. With a full bench, Matthew Savage and Owen Marshall were both rested after picking up knocks in that game.
As has often been the case on visits to this venue, the hosts had the better of the first half with Garforth being the better side in the second. That said, there were a couple of chances for The Miners early doors. Mutty Al-Jahadhmy's shot was denied by Pewits goalkeeper Declan Lambton when he was played in by Max Tweddle. The second was a gift to Luke Aldrich after the ball was given away by an Emley defender, the striker found himself in space but could only drag a low shot wide.
The gift-giving continued on 9 mins from what was Emley's first attack of the game and they took full advantage to give themselves the lead. Harry Flatters flapped at Alex Metcalfe's corner kick and in the ensuing scramble the ball came to Connor O'Grady on the edge of the area who slammed into the net at the second attempt.
