Before the game there was a presentation for goalkeeper Harry Flatters who made his 100th appearance for the club.
Whilst Redcar were a good side adapting impressively to life in the NPL, they didn’t really have to get out of first gear against a disjointed Garforth who failed to adapt to the gusty conditions and never really looked like getting anything from the game.
The Steelmen were ahead within seven minutes when full back Curtis Round picked up the ball on the edge of the box and found the net with a cracking strike into the top corner. Striker Adam Boyes almost made it two on 16 mins when played in by Round, but his low shot was deflected wide. There were appeals for a Redcar penalty shortly after when Oscar Fletcher went down in the box, but the referee waved play on and instead booked Fletcher and an away coach for their protests. Nevertheless, the lead was doubled on 22 mins when the ball was worked in from the right, and with Town players appealing in vain for offside, Bradley Fewster found himself clear to finish low into the net. Things got even worse for The Miners five minutes later; Round’s corner kick picking out captain Danny Lay who’s header Flatters got a glove to but couldn’t keep out.
