Bridlington ended Garforths’ unbeaten start to the season in a high tempo FA Trophy tie at the BD Community Stadium.
The seasiders were in front after just four minutes, through a Ben Tweed free-kick that rattled in off the post.
A huge amount of pressure from the home side followed. A Harris Eggleston shot cannoned off the post, while Alex Baird was in inspired form to deny Oli Patrick and Mutty . Mutty did have the ball in the net before the break, but it was ruled offside.
James Burgess netted his fourth goal in four games just minutes after the restart, but a Bridlington penalty on sixty minutes restored their lead. The assistant ref ruled that the ball had hit Patricks' arm in the penalty area.
Garforth then threw everything at the Brid goal, including veteran substitute defender Sam Denton, who managed to scramble the ball home in the ninetieth minute.
That late equaliser was ultimately in vain, as Bridlington won the penalty shootout 5-4.
