At a venue where we haven't won for eleven years it's often felt like we're up against it and sure enough Garforth found themselves a man down after only 90 seconds.

From the kick-off, Laurence Sorhaindo's low shot was deflected wide forcing a corner. Ryan Watson's delivery found a teammate on the edge of the box who's effort was adjudged to have been handled on the line by Matthew Savage. Liversedge were awarded a penalty and Savage shown a straight red card. Finn Donovan stepped up and sent Harry Flatters the wrong way to open the scoring.

Shortly after that there was a good chance for Kelan Swales who curled a shot just beyond the far post after the ball was played along the edge of the box as Sedge sought a second.

To their credit, The Miners soon recovered from their early adversity and began to take the game to the hosts to set up a barnstorming afternoon. On nine minutes we were level when James Burgess flicked on Harris Eggleston's pass to Charlie Marshall 20 yards out who volleyed into the net for his sixth of the season and 70th in a Garforth jersey. Eggleston was unlucky not to put us in the lead on 11 mins when he cut inside and fired against the crossbar.

Sorhaindo thought he'd restored Sedge's lead on 19 mins when he found the net with a downward header from a left wing cross but he was ruled offside. Further chances for the hosts saw Sorhaindo's curled effort go over the bar on 31 mins, a low shot from captain Chris Atkinson go beyond the far post, then a half-volley from Donovan hitting the side netting.

Garforth remained a threat on the counter however and with half time seconds away gave ourselves an unlikely lead. Eggleston shrugged off a defender and beat stranded keeper Jordan Porter for his sixth of the season.

Incredibly, only a minute into the second period Town scored a third. Burgess hit a speculative shot from out wide and the ball was fumbled into the net, restoring the striker's status as our top scorer with eight.

Sadly any ecstacy among the Town faithful wasn't to last as on 50 mins the hosts were awarded a second penalty when an opponent was taken down in the box. Up stepped Donovan again who's effort did just enough to beat Flatters.

The remainder of the game was a tough watch for away supporters as the momentum shifted from a tiring Garforth to a newly-boosted Sedge. Watson hit a low shot against the post soon after, then Flatters produced a great save to turn Swales's header. Flatters then denied Watson twice in quick succession, both efforts from just outside the box. Sorhaindo then headed narrowly over the bar Alex Wollerton's delivery.

A rare chance for The Miners arrived on 58 mins when Mutty Al-Jahadhmy put a low shot wide when played in by Eggleston, but in any case the offside flag was raised.

A superb block by captain Jamie Barkway on 65 mins denied Luke Hendrie's cross from finding an awaiting Sorhaindo before manager Paul Marshall opted for a triple substitution. Jonny White, new signing Luke Hogg and Jack Johnson replacing Joe Allerton, Marshall and Max Tweddle.

The chances for an equaliser continued on 81 mins when substitute Alfie Dean blazed over the bar after the ball was played in from the right.

There was still time for more adversity and Town were forced to see out the game with nine men when Eggleston's challenge on an opponent was deemed to be a high one and he too was given his marching orders.

A tall order indeed to gain something from the game and sadly Town were to leave the Spen Valley with less than their efforts deserved as Sedge completed the comeback. Swales's cross into the six-yard box was parried by Flatters straight to the feet of Joe Walton on 88 mins who made it 3-3.

In injury time Porter almost gifted Garforth another goal when he fumbled another Burgess effort but he managed to recover at the second attempt. From that chance the hosts went down the other end and scored the winner. The ball was played into the box again and Walton - often a thorn in our side in recent years - grabbed his second of the game to wrap up his side's first win in four and our first defeat in three.

Garforth are next in action next Saturday when we host Morpeth Town (kick-off 3pm).
