Déjà vu for Garforth Town as yet another Lancashire side stands between them and the next round of the FA Cup. However, this one means a little bit more.
A win on Saturday would see the home side progress to the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup; a joint-furthest finish in tournament history. It’s almost within touching distance for Garforth; however, full focus still remains on the task at hand this Saturday.
The task: defeating FC United of Manchester. The visitors are a step 3 team currently sat at the foot of the Northern Premier Division, with 0 wins in their first 8 league games.
However, the Manchester-based team will be looking to bounce back in what is certain to be a ‘War Of The Roses’ thriller. Despite their poor league position, the visitors finished just 9 points off promotion last season and, after adding former 12-goal Premier League attacker Adam Le Fondre to their forward line, will be looking to make up for their difficult start to the league with a domestic cup run.
Garforth go into the clash following a 2-0 away victory against Bridlington Town. The Miners opened the scoring after 37 minutes, with Ronnie McGrath getting his first goal for the club with a deft chip over the goalkeeper. There was not much between the two teams as the game slowly trundled into the final quarter of an hour. Mutty was substituted onto the pitch after 77 minutes, and it took the winger just 8 minutes before sealing all 3 points for the away side. Mutty’s composed goal finished off a devastating counter-attack, assisted brilliantly by Harris Eggleston. Monday’s victory sees Garforth move up to 4th in the Northern Premier League Division 1 East table, only 2 points behind top spot.
The last two meetings between both sides came in the 2007/08 season. The first game saw Garforth Town take all 3 points at Grigg Lane; the only goal came from Jason St Juste. By the time the reverse fixture rolled around, it was already the last league game of the season; disappointingly for Garforth, it was FC United’s turn to take victory by a narrow 1-goal margin. A goal from Richard Carrick and a red card for skipper Brett Renshaw took the headlines on the day.

The ground will be segregated for this game, and there will be catering and bar facilities for both sets of supporters. Away supporters will enter through turnstile A and home supporters turnstile B.
There are also wheelchair accessible entrances.
Stewards will be available to assist if needed.
Any supporters found to be in the wrong area will be refused entry, or ejected. We're asking that supporters don't arrive before 1pm, as no access will be given before this time.
Parking stewards will be on hand to assist as you approach on Cedar Ridge.
