Some of the following news comes much later than planned, but to bring you up to date:
Portugese midfield player Helmo Silva has joined Garforth after impressing in pre-season friendlies. Helmo has made the step up from local football after playing for Hunslet Club in the West Yorkshire League.
Another arriving is central midfielder Matthew Johnson who featured for the Miners early last season before moving to Nostell. Matthew has plenty of experience at this level and is also a coach at York City.
Goalkeeper Peter Lawrie joined the club on 15th August. Pete joins us from Pickering Town and has in the past played for Selby Town and Tadcaster Albion.
After losing his place to our new keeper, Paul Hagreen left the club last week to join Selby Town. Paul featured between the sticks throughout last season and his family were regulars at Garforth games. In total he made 49 appearances over two spells for the club (one as sub).
Midfielder Vincent Dhesi left the club for Parkgate on 11th August in search of more regular first team football. The move sees him link up with ex-Garforth manager Graham Nicholas and a handful of ex-players. Altogether Vinny appeared 31 times for The Miners (12 as a sub), scoring twice.
On the injury front there's mixed news - there's a blow for midfielder Liam Ormsby who came off injured at Staveley last weekend and is expected to be out for 3-4 weeks. Let's hope he's back playing soon. Meanwhile, fellow midfielder Jack McMurrough has reached the end of a long road to recovery after suffering a broken leg in the defeat at AFC Mansfield back in April. "Jack Mac" was a big loss in the final weeks of last season, but could well be back in a Town shirt tomorrow evening.
A warm welcome to players joining us and best wishes to those leaving!
