For the final matchday of the calendar year, the Miners will travel to Nottinghamshire to face Carlton Town at the Bill Stokeld Stadium. 2024 has witnessed Garforth achieve promotion to the NPL East to now battling incredibly well in the division. Paul Marshall would want his team to finish this emphatic year on a high.
Saturday's opponents currently sit 11th in the NPL East table compared to the Miners in 8th, with seven points splitting the sides after 23 matches. Back in August, James Burgess and a Charlie Marshall double sealed a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture between the sides on home soil.
The Millers were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Sherwood Colliery on Thursday; a narrow loss in which Carlton dominated large parts of the game but failed to break the resolute Colliery backline. In addition, Carlton defender Dean Freeman received a second booking late in the encounter and will be suspended for the Miners clash.
Speaking after the Sherwood defeat, assistant manager Andy Clerke highlighted that the "quick turnaround between games" offered an opportunity for Carlton "to right their wrongs on Saturday" against the Miners.
Back on Garforth, a dominant display against Brighouse Town saw first half goals from Dan Coupland, Matt Antcliff and a beautiful overhead kick from Sam Barker complete a 3-0 Boxing Day win. The current run of three wins from five matches certainly suggests that momentum is with the Miners ahead of their final matchday of the year.
Thursday's game saw the return of Steven Jeff from injury, along with the introduction of new signing Fedel Ross-Lang off the bench. The promising young winger recently made the move from Knaresborough Town; having spent most of his youth career in the Manchester City and Southampton academy systems. The short 48-hour rest period for Garforth may force Paul Marshall into fielding a rotated side, however a good amount of squad depth is at his disposal.
An impressive year by all accounts from the Miners, and now all eyes turn to Saturday where they can cap it off with a victory.
Kick Off is at 3pm
