Following a miraculous 3-3 draw on Wednesday, which saw Garforth come back from a 3-goal deficit away at Grimsby, the Miners now turn their attention to Step 5 club Droylsden in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup.

A Paul Marshall side that now plays their fourth away fixture in a row will be keen to defeat Droylsden on Saturday and reach the first qualifying round of the domestic cup, a feat they achieved most recently in the 2024/25 season.

However, Droylsden will go into this match with high hopes of causing an upset. Following promotion last season, The Bloods have taken to life in the North West Counties Football League with remarkable ease. An undefeated start to the season (2 wins and 1 draw) as well as victory over fellow NWCFL side Burscough in the FA Cup has the home side in top form coming into Saturday’s clash.

Both sides have previously met twice, both times in the FA Vase Preliminary Round in October 1984. The first meeting was an away match on the 6th, which finished 2-2; Paul Copley was the scorer of both goals. Garforth won the replay at home 7 days later, with yet another brace, this time scored by Keith Matthews, helping Garforth prevail 2-1on the day. Courtesy of our stats man, Andrew Marsh.

A tale of two undefeated sides going head-to-head for a place in the FA Cup has all the makings of a classic. Previous cup history and present-day triumph - get yourself down to the game and support The Miners this Saturday, as the Emirates FA Cup journey is only getting started.

Kick-off at The Butchers Arms is at 3:00pm.
