2014 - Garforth made a first ever visit to Heanor Town. American striker CJ Lyle gave The Miners an early lead on 8 mins, but the Derbyshire side hit back with a 30th minute penalty and a goal eleven mins from the end to take the points.
Town team: Hunter, L. Smith, Bishop, Allen (Akeroyd 83), Alali, Greenhalgh (Oyebanji 83), Rupere, Cartman, Black (Sutton 45), Lyle, Carr.
Garforth were trophy winners on this day in 2009, beating fancied opponents Bradford (Park Avenue) to lift the West Riding County Cup for the first time in nine years. Andy Hayward was on target in a 1-1 draw which remained that way through extra time, forcing a penalty shootout. Simon Clifford's team eventually prevailed 5-4, prompting a pitch invasion by supporters and club officials to dust off the key to the trophy cabinet. A match decided by penalties is a fairly recent development in the club's history, the first recorded being in 2007.
Team: Gibbons, G. Williams (Kelly 45), N. Kamara, Connor (Clarke 78, Tiani 105), Renshaw (c), D. Williams, D. Blair, Harratt, Piper, Hayward, Fox. Unused: Jaggar.
In a sign of how things change in football, Dave Parker's team visited Alfreton Town for a league match in 2000. The Derbyshire outfit, who would eventually go on to play Conference football, had been relegated from the Northern Premier League the season before and were keen on a swift return, but things didn't go to plan as we came away with a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Dave Henry and Paul Arkle. To add to the home side's woes they finished with eight men, including their ex-York City goalkeeper (anyone remember his name?) for foul and abusive language.
Team: Darnborough, Holmes, Firth, Stevenson, Sullivan, Higginbottom, Arkle, S. Baldwin, Allen, Henry, Jackson. Subs: Davy, Smith, Knowles.
1999 - Town lost 1-0 at Thackley in a league match.
Still with the Dave Parker era, Town lost 3-2 at Worsbrough Bridge in the league in 1995, a goal from Patrick Flaherty and an own goal sadly in vain.
Team: Bramhill, Thompson, Quinn, Ormsby, Hamer, Daniels, Ramsden, Abrams, Flaherty, Harrison, Holmes. Subs: Camm, Copsey.
Goals from Keith Clements and Peter Taylor helped Peter Bush's team to a 2-1 league win at home to Immingham Town in 1989.
Going back to Garforth Miners days, in 1985 Town beat Rowntree Mackintosh 3-2, Mark Baker, Mick Adams and Chris Betteridge on target for Rod Johnson's team.
On this day in 1982, Town were in action at neighbours Yorkshire Amateur but sadly the result isn't in the archive. If you were there or know the result please get in touch!
