RIP Paul Dooley

Mastermind of famous 1986-87 FA Vase run passes away....

The club was saddened to hear the news that former first team manager Paul Dooley passed away earlier this month (pictured back row, left). Paul was at the helm for two spells; from 1985-88 and for the 1993-94 season. Taking charge upon the club's name change from Garforth Miners, he led his team to promotion from the former NCEL Division 2 and, in his second spell, to a sixth-place finish in Division 1. His time at the club is probably best remembered for the club's best ever run in the FA Vase, in 1986-87. Town progressed through six rounds to reach the Quarter Finals where they made the long journey to Romford in Essex to play Collier Row. In front of a crowd of over a thousand, Vinnie Archer was on target, but sadly we went down to a 2-1 defeat.

A left-back in his playing days, Paul turned out for local sides Whitkirk Wanderers, Cherry Tree, Burmantofts, Fforde Green and White Hart amongst others.

Our thoughts and condolences are with all of Paul's friends and family.

Thanks to Peter Job of East Leeds Soccer for his help with this article.
