Goalkeeper Toby Wells has re-signed for a fourth season with the club. His shot-stopping displays earned him the nickname ‘Superman’ in the 2018-19 season and he remains a key part of our defence.
Another long-serving player remaining in LS25 is Helmo Silva. The popular Portuguese winger first joined us in 2017-18, and whilst his starts have often been limited, can be relied upon to entertain the crowd with his attacking flair.
Experienced centre-forward James Burgess also re-signs. Returning to the club last September, he impressed in games against Handsworth and Grimsby Borough before Covid-19 lockdown sadly halted the season. 'Burge' will hope to pick up where left off and get in among the goals.
Central defender Jamie Barkway and full-back Jack McGahan are two more to sign forms. Both joined the club last summer and their performances swiftly earned them a place in the starting eleven.
Confirmed as leaving the club is attacking midfielder Charlie Marshall who has signed for our newly-promoted neighbours Liversedge. Son of manager Paul, Charlie made headlines last September with a four-goal haul in the 7-2 win at Goole. Overall he’s made 34 appearances over two spells with the club, scoring eleven goals.
Centre-forward Lee Turner has also left. With 137 appearances to his name (and 30 goals) over three spells, he was the club’s longest serving player, and showed his dedication to the cause by deputising in different positions, most notably at centre-back. In front of goal he was league top scorer in the opening weeks of the 2017-18 season and scored a tremendous equaliser in the 4-4 draw against Harrogate Railway. He continued to show his importance to the squad in the opening weeks of last season with goals against Goole and Grimsby Borough.
Whilst it’s been said a player never truly leaves Garforth Town, we thank both for their efforts and wish them all the best for the future.
