Shakers overcome Miners to progress to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.
Heading into this tie, neither team had been beaten since their seasons started, back in early August.
Garforth had to deal without two of their mainstay centre backs, who’d both been red carded in the previous round.
Reuben Jerome started for Bury, he’d scored twice on his last visit with Emley just a few months ago.
Mo Fadera shook the Shakers in the first half, but couldn’t apply the finish his build up play deserved. He did hit the bar from close range, but this was ruled out for offside anyway.
Burys’ danger man Tanaka Cherera was more clinical, swivelling to volley them into a half time lead. The striker adding to his rich vein of goalscoring form.
Garforth gave plenty of effort, but little goal threat in a second half that was fairly comfortable for the team from across the pennines.
There was one moment of controversy when Charlie Marshall was denied a run on goal by what he adamantly claimed was handball.
Lewis Alessandra sewed the game up when he finished from close range following a moment of hesitation in the Garforth box.
As the clock ticked down, there was one more moment of misery for the Miners as substitute Sam Cable was red carded in added time.
Garforth will look to bounce back from this setback on Tuesday, when they host Ashington in the NPL East. Kick-off at the Bannister Prentice Stadium is 7.45pm.
