After three defeats to teams close to the top of the division, Garforth managed to go toe-to-toe with second-placed Emley AFC in a goalless draw. A game of strong defences was much the theme despite a handful of opportunities falling to both teams, resulting in the share of the spoils.
Both sides began with a high intensity with some well-worked moves and flying tackles. Town were first to come close to an opener in the 5th; a curled cross in from Ewan Gregson was met with a brilliant first touch from Jordan Emery in the box, who launched a fierce volley just over the woodwork.
Lengthy stoppages to attend to knocks for Emley's Amir Berchil and Luke Parkin calmed proceedings somewhat, however an excellent ball through by Parkin minutes later forced Garforth keeper Harry Flatters to rush out and narrowly clear the danger away from striker Belchoir Rodrigues.
An unexpected, lofted pass from captain Dan Coupland in the 21st minute caught the Emley backline off-guard, leaving Gregson to fire from the corner of the area yet Pewits shot-stopper Declan Lambton managed to get his body behind the attempt.
Shortly after, the visitors' Adam Clayton connected to a free kick delivery with a thumping header - a good save from Flatters took the pace off the effort but it still required a goal-line clearance from Sam Barker to fully maintain the deadlock.
A poor clearance from Lambton in the closing phases of the half was latched onto by Charlie Marshall, who worked his way through two Emley bodies to set up another Gregson shot. Driven low towards the bottom left corner, Lambton recovered from his mistake with a stretching dive to hold the ball.
The referee's whistle brought an end to the eventful half with scores level, although it seemed likely that goals could come from either side after the interval. Garforth flew out the gates after the resume with an abundance of hopeful strikes from various areas; all of which being comfortably blocked or dealt with by the visitors.
Opportunities became slightly scarce as time progressed, with Emley demonstrating their defensive strengths whilst aiming to hit Town on the counter. Nevertheless, the Miners matched the opponents stride for stride in an aggressive midfield battle and persisted in the search for the opener.
The Pewits made all five substitutions before a single home change and began pushing forward with 15 minutes left to play. Luckily for the large crowd, it reintroduced a sense of urgency and openness to the match but nearly against Garforth's favour. A sloppy back pass goalwards by Rinor Ejupi allowed Emley substitute Donae Lawrence a free hit at Flatters, yet somehow the keeper got his foot to the shot and impressively recovered to prevent the rebound from Berchil.
The Miners then had a brilliant chance of their own as substitute Sam Denton weaved into the Pewits' box to fire home, although again it failed to test Lambton past a simple dive. A last-gasp drive seconds from time by Charlie Marshall similarly offered him space to shoot from close range, however a mass of Emley bodies kept things at a stalemate for the final whistle.
