Dan Coupland returned to the first eleven after holidays, as did Luke Aldrich who missed Saturday's Trophy win over Ashington. With a full bench, Matthew Savage and Owen Marshall were both rested after picking up knocks in that game.
As has often been the case on visits to this venue, the hosts had the better of the first half with Garforth being the better side in the second. That said, there were a couple of chances for The Miners early doors. Mutty Al-Jahadhmy's shot was denied by Pewits goalkeeper Declan Lambton when he was played in by Max Tweddle. The second was a gift to Luke Aldrich after the ball was given away by an Emley defender, the striker found himself in space but could only drag a low shot wide.
The gift-giving continued on 9 mins from what was Emley's first attack of the game and they took full advantage to give themselves the lead. Harry Flatters flapped at Alex Metcalfe's corner kick and in the ensuing scramble the ball came to Connor O'Grady on the edge of the area who slammed into the net at the second attempt.
On 13 mins Jamie Barkway headed wide at the far post Tweddle's corner as Garforth sought the equaliser. Down the other end, another Metcalfe corner wasn't dealt with by Flatters, but luckily his defenders did in the resulting scramble before the whistle was blown for a foul on the Town stopper. To be fair to Flatters he recovered well from his shaky start and on 30 mins denied at the near post Manasse Mampala after a dangerous run down the right wing. He made another save shortly afterwards after captain Jaanai Gordan was played through by Joe Stacey, turning a low strike beyond the far post. Another chance ended in Hayden Lindley (?) firing just off-target after Metcalfe's mis-hit shot from a corner kick found him in space.
Down the other end the final opening of the half fell to El-Jahadhmy who's curling effort was just over the bar.
After a good spell of pressure in the early minutes of the second half, Barkway came close twice to levelling the scoring on the hour mark from Tweddle's corner. Lambton kept out his first before the follow-up shot went just beyond the far post.
There was a good chance for the hosts to make it two on 69 mins when Lindley's free-kick was only half-cleared, the ball falling to Belchior Rodrigues who blazed over the bar. Town had been making inroads down the left with Jordan Emery playing attacking full-back and it was a quickly taken throw-in on this flank that led to a deserved equalizer. Rinor Ejupi tricked his way into the box, and after his cross was half-cleared, Coupland was on hand to smash the ball into the net for his first goal of the season and second in as many visits to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground.
There were few clear-cut chances in the minutes that remained; Joe Stacey firing just past the far post after a right-wing cross was half-cleared. A fair few players had needed treatment in what had been a tough physical battle, and after six minutes of injury time both sides settled for a point.
The Miners have become the "draw specialists" of the division with four games played, but will look to earn a first league win of the season when we host a first ever league meeting with Blyth Spartans on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
