The midfielder's goal was a rare moment of quality in a typically tight affair between the two sides where chances were few and far between.
Of those that did happen, the visitors had the better of them first half. Laurence Sorhaindo's 12th minute effort was blocked in the six-yard box after the striker made his way in from the right. Defences continued to be on top on 23 mins when a Joe Clegg header was similarly blocked at the expense of a corner kick. Charlie Marshall looked to create our first chance of the afternoon on 33 mins when Joe Allerton delivered to him after seeing his own effort denied but a defender was equal to the danger and managed to clear.
Shortly after Luke Aldrich's looping header was just over the bar after good work on the left by Allerton and Max Tweddle. Emley's Manasse Mampala was in with a sight of goal as half time drew near after a Gabriel Johnson strike was denied, but his effort could only bring a routine save from Harry Flatters. The best opening of the half came moments later when Flatters made a cracking save to keep out Sorhaindo when Johnson's cross from the left looked to have played him in.
Olli Patrick almost scored his first goal for the club after Charlie Marshall's run down the right, but his low strike went just beyond the far post.
Garforth looked the more likely in the second half, albeit with chances still at a premium. The game was finally lit up by the winning goal on 66 mins. Dogged work by the Marshall cousins in winning the ball back on the halfway line saw the ball played to Aldrich who held up and supplied Allerton to score his fourth goal for the club with a floated finish into the top corner.
The game seemed to open up after this point and a succession of corners for the visitors around the 70 min-mark looked their most promising route to an equaliser. Captain Jack Cowgill's header just over the bar from Joe Stacey's delivery was the closest they came however. A worrying moment arrived with seconds of normal time to go when Ellis Farrar sustained a head injury after him and a teammate both went in for a header. Happily after treatment, the fullback was at least able to walk off the field and be substituted to applause from both sets of supporters.
A lengthy period of injury time ensued, but with no further chances The Miners went on to celebrate a massive victory and our first over our neighbours at the Bannister Prentice Stadium. Paul Marshall's side are on their travels again next Thursday when we make the short journey to Pontefract Collieries aiming to keep our excellent run going (kick-off 3pm).
